Tabard Works is an office refurbishment project undertaken after the first Covid lockdown and it is located just outside the main area of Borough, London.
The existing building lacked street presence and the incongruous interiors over 6 floors needed careful stripping back, with the aim of retaining and reusing as much elements as possible to help reduce the commercial waste.
With the site being on the fringe and the keen interest in supporting local businesses, the client commissioned the Artist in Residence at Leake Street underneath Waterloo Station, Marc Craig to create bespoke murals, which added much interest and joy to not only the building but the surrounding streets as well. The building was firstly painted black, to create a stronger presence and it was also the perfect "canvas" for Marc's artwork.
To cater to the uncertain and changing leasing market, the offices in this building are designed to be let fully fitted, with or without furniture, from short to long term; whatever that works for the tenant. In addition, the lower ground floor has been designed as a dedicated amenity and networking space, with two bookable large meeting/ table tennis play rooms, spacious teapoint, dining/ breakout area and lockers.
To tie in with the playful exterior and the industrial feel of the building, the interiors carry the same design language through the use of colours, lighting, graphics, furniture, fixture and finishes across all floors.
The rooftop terrace is an ideal spot for some fresh air, casual outdoor meetings, dining and yoga sessions, whenever the weather in London permits.
